Re-barrel Colt Trooper

I have a Colt Trooper I want to re-barrel. Assuming (a big one I know) I am not a complete idiot, can I do this myself?
I have read a little about it and it seems fairly straight forward, but, the thing i worry about is with the barrel not being perfectly round and an integrated sight, how do you end up with it line up correctly?
I also need a side plate, I have looked on Colt Parts.com, but it is unavailable (the side plate)does anyone have one or know where I can find one.
By the way there are a few small parts for sale on ebay.

Thanks to any who look and especially to those who try to help

Replacing a barrel is a job for a professional unless you have the equipment & knowledge not only to do the installation, but correct the problems you are likely to find.

Gun Parts Corp probably has the side plate you need. Installation is also a gunsmith job, as these often need fitting.
