bought one of these in 22 hornet at a local gun shop yesterday (yeah me). it has cz rings on it but whoever had it before must have used a chisel and hammer to remove the ring screws. the screw head slots are really ugly. i was trying to find some replacement screws, but no luck. they measure 3.37mm in dia. and are about 8mm long. not sure of the pitch, maybe .8mm. does anyone know a source for these.

Clean the slots up with a file and touch up with cold blue.

Added. Drill a hole for the threads in a hardwood block, use a small ball peen hammer and try to flow the metal back in place. Clean up the slot with a safe needle file. You can then chuck the screw into the drill press and spin it pressing the head into the block covered with some fine sandpaper or crocus cloth to polish it out. Lightly heat the screw and apply cold blue with a q-tip. Wash it, then oil.

    varian,

Unless you have an easy source for this screw, I suggest contacting CZ in Kansas City, MO.

Scroll down through the list until you get to 'Parts' and fill out the form.

    Best.

My 527's are nicely blued as was the fashion back in the day. The rings that came with the rifles are a matt finish that, to my eye, does not look right with bright blue and walnut. Burris sells bright blue rings for the 527 so that's what is on my rifles.

BTW: If you handload, try Hodgdon Lil' Gun with 35 or 40 gr. Hornady V-Max.

Hello I have found most 22 hornet shoot smaller groups if you reload with small pistol primers I think because of the small amount of powder used in 22 hornet loads a small the small rifle primers may be too HOT also because of the smaller action size bolt fireing pin the rifle primers may have a thicker /harder primer CUP.
