Simmons target scope question

I recently purchased a HB rifle with a Simmons 8-32 power target scope on it. I was wondering if Simmons made this scope or if another company made it for them. I can't seem to find any listed. It seems to be a quality scope. Any replies will be appreciated, thanks.

Nick Stroebel's book. "Old Rifle Scopes", has a listing for Simmons Scopes. Made in Japan after 1985. No 8-32 listed though,
Stroebel's book is from 2000. Might have been made since then? See if there is a model number on the scope, and country of origin.

That said. I bought a new Simmons scope. From a add in the Shotgun News, years ago. Relatively inexpensive, it worked OK. But with optics, you get what you pay for. Check fleabay to see what used ones, are selling for.

Make no mistake about it, if it says Simmons, it has nothing to do with great measures of quality. Simmons, and TASCO are to rifle scopes, what Taurus is to firearms. Some seem to work OK, but nothing stellar.

Value is very modest. Inexpensive scopes worth about the price, but do not hold much value.

i have a older tasco target 8x32 scope with a small dot made in japan mounted on a howa HB .223 and it works well, but i would not put it on any thing that has heavy recoil. mr myopic.

    deadeye46,

Respectfully, there is nothing high quality about these scopes. They are in the same class as BSA, Tasco, Barska and anything else that comes flooding out of China inexpensively.

Simmons 8-32x44 AO Target Rifle Scope

If I remember correctly, these were available about 20 years or so ago. Being Simmons brand, they were not then nor are they now, very high quality nor are they expensive. I see them for anywhere between $50.00 to $100.00 if they are perfect.

If the glass is clear and it suits your needs, hang onto it. But keep in mind that these are inexpensive scopes and not anywhere near top of the line.

    Best.

    Hello "Deadeye"

My only experience with their crap is that they virtually have no repair/warranty. dept. You're on your own if you have a problem.

I saw a Simmons 4X scope break apart internally on a 30-06 rifle. The scope was 25 to 30 years old in 2013.
