Hello,
I was wondering if anyone here knows how to remove the barrel from one of these things. I'm planning to SBR one and from what I've read, installing a foregrip requires removing the barrel.
I have removed the barrel nut and that loosened the barrel, but it's only able to rotate slightly and move back and forth perhaps an eighth of an inch. Tried a bit of tapping both directions with a wooden dowel and a mallet, but no luck.
If anyone has any insight into this, or perhaps has a scan of an owner's manual, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

Found some stuff on U Tube. This is one of them. Only seen a couple over the years. Picking one up felt like a blacksmiths anvil, must weigh 6 lbs, at least?

From the photos, don't look like the forgrip is attached to the barrel? But the ventilated housing/heat shield, that surrounds the barrel.

Did you remove the trigger assembly & bolt? It looks like you have to remove the barrel through the rear of the receiver.

My thought is, any conversion attempt would do irreparable damage to the gun, & parts are nonexistent. But, it's your gun.....

    Thanks for the replies, guys!

Yup, rufe it's pretty hefty. Main reason I want to SBR it. You're right, the foregrip does mount to the heat shield, but you have to get the mounting nut inside the heat shield and that's impossible to do with the barrel in the way.

Neal - I tried this while it was completely field stripped and still couldn't get the barrel out. Didn't really want to beat on it too much for the exact reason you mentioned. They had conversion kits out there so there's gotta be a way to do it without damage, I just can't figure it out.

Got it out, with some advice from a guy on another forum. The barrel is just friction fit into the receiver, so after the barrel nut is removed it can be knocked out from back to front with a wooden dowel - it just required quite a bit more force than I was using the first attempt.
