savage 1899 takedown

Looking at a savage 1899 takedown, nice gun. The barrel is just very lightly loose, hardly any play at all, you really have to be trying to find it to know it is there. It was headspaced, checked and test fired by a licensed smith, who shot a box of ammo thru it. Everything functioned correctly and no signs of pressure problems, stretched cases or anything. He said it was an excellent rifle, play in barrel was nothing to worry about. Any opinions on this slight play in barrel?

I have a lever-action Savage 1899 Takedown with two interchangeable barrels: one is a 410 shotgun and the other is a 250/3000 rifle. It is in its original felt-lined leather case. To date, no one has been able to tell me what it is worth. NO ONE! No one has even heard of or seen this barrel combination. I can't find it anywhere either. I don't want to sell it (unless it is worth something rediculous); I just want to know what it is worth. Can anyone help???

It's up to you. The pro guy that looked and shot it says it's excellent.

My Model 29 Remington pump shotgun bought by my Uncle in 1929 had an elaborate mechanism to keep it in perfect tightness. I think its still on the factory setting. I know I never needed to adjust it.

Some day I would like to build up a 95 Winchester takedown in 30-40 Krag improved. I plan to have both sights on the barrel.

I own a 1899 in 30-30 take down that is well worn from field use.
the take down was not used enough to wear it out.
this rifle was built in 1921.

It was probably taken down routinely and has some wear on the threads.
It isn't going to blow up or fall apart in use.
You probably can't detect any inaccuracy with open sights and maybe not a peep. Not something commonly scoped anyhow.

I have READ of the threads being soldered tight, doing away with the takedown.
A friend has one that was gunsmith rebarreled with the new barrel screwed in tight. It still has the takedown latch, it just doesn't do anything but remove the foreend.

They are hard enough to find, how long is it since Savage made a takedown? A little slack isn't going to hurt anything.....
