30-378 muzzle brake...

...either shot off or fell off..my hunting buddy said he doesn't know what happened...this is a threaded barrel...Have any of you ever heard of it?

    It concerns me that he cannot tell whether it 'fell off' or was 'shot off' since there is a substantial difference between the two occurrences. Certainly he should have noticed if he shot the brake off since the noise and recoil would have been extremely noticeable from the .30-378 Weatherby cartridge. The second clue would have been that the threads would have disappeared with the brake because one set of threads had to fail in order for the brake to be gone. Usually when there is a plate strike inside a brake the thread tenon fails or the brake splits.

    If it fell off, he's still guilty of being unaware of what's going on with his rifle. Seems to me that's one thing that should be checked every time before shooting. I know I do just because I made it a habit.
