I would appreciate some help with background information on an old Winchester .22 caliber rifle that has been in the family for some time. This rifle is stamped "model 06". Any and all info. regarding history, production dates, etc. would be very helpful. Also, the rifle is in 50% condition, but is functional. Any estimates on the value? Thanks for the help.

It looks like you have a Winchester model 1906 takedown. Visible hammer. Caliber:22 short, long and long rifle. Tubular magazine holds 20 short, 16 long and 14 LR. 20-inch bbl. Weight:5 lbs. Sights: open rear; bead front. Strait-grip stock and groved forarm. They were made between 1906 and 1932.The only price I can quote is from "The gun traders guide" twentieth edition(1997). They show a price of $550 for excellent condition.

The 1906 Winchester was shortened to mod 06 by filing off the 19 on the roll die in 1911. So your gun was made after 1911 which is probably apparent to you as it should have an 1911 patent date on it. A good reference is Ned Schwings book "Winchester slide-action rifles volume 1 Model 1890 and Model 1906".
