Winchester Model 54-scope mounting

I have a Winchester M-54, mfg 1936, 30-06, in very good condition. I would like to use it for hunting but require a scope due to eyesight. Can the M-54 be tapped for a top mounted scope and would this affect it's value if done by a reputable gunsmith? The rifle had originally been tapped for a side mount scope with the scope since removed and tap holes restored by my grandfather who was a gunsmith years ago.

Since the gun had already been tapped for a sidemount, the majority of the collector value is gone. There is no reason why you couldnt have it professionally tapped for a top mount.
