WHAT SCOPE CHOICE ??????

I just bought a Ruger #1 International in a .270, it is a beautiful rifle! I want to put a scope on it because scopes are my prefered sight on all my hunting guns,....but it is such a short, quick handling little rifle that I want to top it off w/ a good compact scope so as not to take away from its great handling/looks and make it look 'over scoped.' Either in a 2-7 variable or a fixed 6 power, possible a fixed 4 but I prefer 6. Most shots I get on deer here in TN are short range 50-150 yards. Any recommendations?????

Leupold 3x9 compact. About the perfect size for what you want and not too terribly high priced. I have 5 of them on rifles ranging from 22 RF through 223 REM, all on small action rifles and they look just right, for size, and really are all the scope I need for up to 200-250yds.

Not that I'm rich, but honestly I do not have any rigid price range, as long as it's what I'm looking for. BUT,....I guess I'm thinking in the ball park of $200.00.

Save up your money and get a Leupold. I really think its funny to see people with really nice Rifles and Cheap Scopes. If you "invest" in good optics, you will be able to appreciate your rifle. I've run across some nice deals on good rifles where people think they just got a bad rifle that won't group and didn't relize it was just their scope.

Right lee,and what do they tell ya when they`re tryin` ta sell it to ya? "It`ll shoot five shots in a dime"...man I hate that sayin`.I even had a guy come up to me at a show and claim the scoped shotgun he was tryin` to sell would "put five shots in a dime at a hundred yards"....oh yeah,scopes....go to a show and get a slightly used scope for $50. to $150.,Leupold,Nikon,Burris,Weaver.I buy scopes at shows whether I need them or not, when I do,I got `em.

If you are patient you can find a good used leupold scope for around 100-150 dollars on here or ebay. The leupold scope is guaranteed for life. As for 5 shots on a dime, that all depends on the shooter the rifle the optics and the loads. You get what you pay for with most optics. A leupold M8 4power is a good hunting scope. They are bright, compact, give a wide field of view and if you carry a set of 8 or 10 power binoculars anyway you might not need the 9+ power scopes available.

218beekeepI think you misunderstude my reply to this post. No... I do not always believe Joe Bob telling me the rifle he's trying to sell me is a one hole shooter. It's just that I've learned the hard way about being stingy with the cash on the optics.

Lee , I understood. It just reminded me of something,I suppose.Sometimes I don`t make myself very clear.Sometimes I `m guilty of addressing only a small part of the issue.
