Is there a way to distinguish Colt factory Ivory grips from aftermarket grips?

Doesn't Colt engrave the revolvers serial number on the inside of the grips? Aftermarket grips have no numbers.

Hello SST I take it you are looking at a pistol with IVORY grips and want to know if they are FACTORY the only SURE way is to get a letter on the gun from colt. anybody could engrave serial No. on grips. Ivory grips are like looking at jewelry there is some fake some cheap and some great.Even colt had other people make their grips There is an old retired guy in Va. named LIttleberry Hicks that made ivory grips for colt for many many years colt furnished the ivory and he made the grips. quote:"PRAISE THE HARD BALL GUN"
