Need information on L.C. Smith/Hunter Arms Shotgun

This was my grandfather's gun. He died in 1967, and I know that he bought the gun when he was a boy, so possibly late 1800's or early 1900's.

It is a side by side shotgun. I believe that the serial number is 89012F. I've seen references to Damascus steel in this forum, and I think that the barrel definitely looks like that.

I'll follow up and post some pictures if I get the chance.

    I have an Elsie, #152594 and it was made in 1908. These barrels are Damascus also. Someone may be able to explain the F after the serial number. Amazing how tight they lock up after all these years.
