I have a Police Service Six 2 3/4 in barrel bobbed hammer double action only serial number 158-929XX. Box marked catalog no GF-32 2 3/4 inch bbl. The lady at Ruger told me it was shipped in 1982 with a 2 3/4 barrel double action and that it apparently was a custom order. She had no other information as to the bobbed hammer. Does anybody have any other information on this firearm or know where I can look?

Thanks, Robert

I recently acquired a Police Service Six .357 in stainless with a 2 3/4" barrel. It is in very nice shape.

I have seen them listed from time to time on various gun auction sites but never with the 2 3/4" barrel. Is this rare by any means??

Ruger site indicates it was made in 1981. Any help appreciated.

Hello, hoping someone could fill in some squares for me. I have a Ruger Police Service Six 38 Special rev. With a 4 inch barrel, fixed sights, and in excellent shape. I was wondering what the differnce between the Police service six and say the Security Six, or Speed Six? Seems like everything I see for this era of guns is always for the others. They look just like the security six, so my guess is the caliber is the only differnce. Thanks in advance!

Yes. Only difference is the police service has fixed sights, and the security six has adjustable. After market grips only fit a 175 or later SN prefix.
