Came in the shop, "just stopped firing"...Reviewed it and pulled bolt *'bly out. Took apart and found the firing pin bent on one end. Replaced with new and hand fitted. Now test fired 25 rounds in five shot increments. First 2 to prove action were single shot, poor extraction. Next set similar, cases would stove pipe, rotate 180 degrees and jam, come out all bent up. 3rd try 5 shots without hesitation. Next 2 sets same as first two. Feed, extract, and eject all seem to be a problem. Everything is spotless, sharp, and mechanically correct.

I have a Winchester Model 74, .22cal Auto Rifle, Serial # 2343XXA
It loads thru a slot on the Right side of the stock. Also has a Load Tube that comes out of the butt of the stock to spring load the ammo.
Would like to know the following:
From the Serial number, can you come up with the date of Mfg??
There is a push type "bolt" at the extreme butt end of the barrel that can be moved a little when the slide bolt is in the rearmost position.
What is this for?? Is it made to hold the breech bolt in the rear (chamber open) position so you can clean/brush the barrel??
Other than the barrel needing re=blueing, the gun is in Great shape.
Any info you can furnish will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Dairyland man
One is now complete.
I have been able to locate just about everything I need for the second one except for the stock takedown screw and the metal insert that goes in the stock for that screw.
I would think that Winchester may have used this same screw in other models.
I found the screw for a Model 67 that sure looks the same.
Anyone able to provide input about interchangeably of parts?
Thanks ahead of time.
I would think so.
