ww-2 Japanese NCO sword value?

I have a ww-2 Japanese NCO Army sword in fair condition along with a poor quality sheath. The handle appears to be wraped sharkskin (or so I was told years ago) and the blade is in reasonably good condition. Any idea as to value?

Does the grip have a wooden or bone pin holding it on the blade? If it does pull the pin out and advise us on the characters you find. Some of the officer and NCO swords were old blades with military parts. The family blades are very spendy. Most of the families want them back and it is not uncommon to realize thousands of dollars for them.Let us know.Otherwise 200 or 400 is the going rate depending on condition.modoc[This message has been edited by modoc (edited 09-19-2001).]

Thank you for your reply. There is a wood pin which secures the handle to the forged steel blade (tang?)and there are no markings apparent. After I clean it a bit I will take a second look.Where might I read up on these military swords. You can reply direct to me at kjschmitt@jcn.netThank you, Karl J. Schmitt
