Sorry for this one,but I'm new to the "rapped fire" world. What is a milled reciever? I have seen adds for guns with milled recievers, and don't know what they mean.

A milled receiver is one that is machined from a solid block of steel, as opposed to a stamped receiver which is fashioned by forming sheet steel into approximately the same shape. There are also investment cast receivers which are cast close to the finished shape and then machined only a little to reach finished dimensions. The term "milled" derives from the use of milling machines and end mills (the actual cutters) which are used to remove metal.

It's a good question, not dumb at all.A milled receiver is made from a solid block of steel. All the metal that shouldn't be there is cut out (or milled) using sharp tools. This method is expensive, but using computers to control the milling helps to keep the cost down.Cast receivers are made by pouring molten steel into a mold slightly larger than the receiver. Cutting it to the final shape is relatively easy. Some receivers are made by bending and riveting sheet metal; depending upon the design of the gun this may work fine. While there is some theoretical advantage to having a milled receiver due to the grain and crystalline structure of the steel, in reality cast receivers perform just as well if all other things are equal.Neal
