The Lawman MK III guns were made from 1969 to 1983. They only came in 2 or 4 inch barrel lengths, with a shrouded or an unshrouded ejector rod. The earlier manufactured guns were only available in Blue or "Shiny" Nickel. Colt started to finish their guns in Electroless Nickel, (Matte texture), in 1981. They then offered this finish to all purchasing any of their guns. If your gun's serial number indicates manufacture between 1981 and 1983, it would then more than likely, have a Factory Electroless Nickel finish.

Some Gunsmiths offering "Re-Finish Service" could have plated your gun, but that is probably highly unlikely. The Reason that would be unlikely is that the Lawman MK III series of guns was considered to be the "Lesser Line" and sold cheaper. They were quality guns and still are. Use the same exact MK III Stainless Coil Spring Action as found in the Trooper MK III. Great Shooters and the 2 inch model makes for a great "Carry gun." Plus the advantage of being able to shoot the cheaper "practice ammo," (.38 Special), and keep costs of regular practice lower. Carry a Blue 2 inch myself from time to time. Enjoy the gun, but it presently doesn't have any real collector interest.......but it is a Colt, so who knows what is in the future?

Value of this gun in Electroless Nickel would be comparable to a Blue or Shiny Nickel finished gun, although the Electroless Nickel finish is a lot tougher and much more durable than the others. A "New-In-Box" example of this gun should bring around the $400 mark. Hope this helps! Good Luck!
