Will Ruger Mark III mags work in Mark II 22lr Pistols?
I am about to order extra mags for my old Mark II pistol and thought I would buy Mark III mags if they work in Mark II pistols. I suspect the Mark III mags are backward compatible, but I am not sure.
Does anyone have experience with this scenario?
Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure I tried some mag swapping in MK2/3 standard pistols at one time w/o much luck.
The MkIII has a button catch with a lip in the mag while the MkII has a heel catch to keep the mag in place. The lip in the mag, a hole with a 'dimple', makes no difference to the MKII but without it there is no way for the magazine to stay in place in the MKIII.
So, yeah, they are backwards compatible but not forward compatible.
Also, the 22/45 mags will interchange if you move the button from one side to the other and change the floorplate, available from Ruger for a couple of bucks. As I recall the 22/45 always had a button release so they had the 'dimple' needed in the mk111.
All the above is taken from memory so use it with caution !
