M1 garand barrel steel

What steel was used by S.A. to make the barrels for the M-1 rifle? Did they use different types over the rifle's service life?

"According to Hatcher, Garand barrels were speced for WD4150 Modified.
WWII 1903 barrels were WD1350 Special or Modified, with higher manganese than 4150 but no chromium or molybdenum.
4150 Modified and 1350 Special were resulphurized, 1350 Modified not."

Steel used in M1 Garand barrel was 4150SAE. "the barrel is made from chromium-molybdenum steel (SAE 4150 ) heat-treated at the supplier's plant to 269-311 Brinell hardness". Quote from "1000 Grand Rifles a Day".
