Question about 2 old .22 rifles

I have a question about 2 old .22 rifles. One is from Steven Arms Company. That is stamped on top of the barrel, along with "Pat. Apr 22 1913". On the receiver is "Crack Shot - 26". It is a single shot rifle, and is loaded from the breech by working the trigger guard. That drops a "block" from the end of the barrel, then you can stick the shell in. Hope that makes sense? I can't find a serial number on it anywhere. The other gun is a Marlin pump-action 22. The top of the barrel is stamped "Pat'd Aug 12 1890, Mar 1 '92, June 8 '97, Nov. 29, 1904" The barrel is octagonal. Again, I can find on serial number. Can anyone tell me anything about these guns? The Marlin was bought used at an estate auction for $50. The Stevens was my great granddads, and is the gun I learned to shoot with. I feel bad about it now, but countless rounds of rat shot were fired through it when I was a kid cleaning pigeons and rats out of the barn. How much does this hurt a barrel, if at all? Thanks!

There were a couple of different Stevens Crack-Shot boy's rifles. Yours sounds like the #26. I reread your post a few times thinking you were describing a 26" barrel.. the barrel should be either 18" or 20". In nice condition, that rifle is bringing $200-$300. I doubt the rat shot has hurt things too terribly, check the bore for erosion and pitting. Interestingly enough, Stevens made a smoothbore version of that gun, the #26 1/2, specifically for shot.Marlin made several models of pump .22 rifles. If you can describe it further such as exposed hammer, hammerless, takedown type, barrel length and markings, etc., I'll try to help. In any event, $50 is a good deal and if it ever comes up for sale I'd give you a nice profit.
