Colt detective specials

I have a question about the Older Colt Detective Specials. I have two, one is in the 9xx,xxx range of serial number and the other is in the 7xx,xxx range of serial number. Neither have any letters in the serial numbers. Both pistols look identical except for when you take the grips off. The 9xxxxx modle has a square bottom and is a bit shorter, with wooded grips that cover all of the frame except the back strap. The model with the serial number 7xxxxx has a rounded butt, with smaller grips that sit atop the frame making the fame visible all around the grips. They also have the colt middalion. Just curious if is a difference in the model? or a difference in the year of manufacutring? They seem to be just about identical other than that. The have the skinny barrels with exposed ejector rod. Thanks for your assistance Values? if it is different? Dont know? Both and in excellent shape, just very minor wear on the 9xxxxx on the tip of the barrel. The Rounded butt one seems to be just about perfect.
