10 gauge

When I was a kid in the 1990s it seemed like 10 gauge caught on real big for goose hunters in South Dakota. Witch gun companies made 10 gauges in the late 80s & early 90s?

Got an American Arms 10 gauge and was curious about where to get a replacement stock for it? One other thing it has the words Canne Cromate on the left side of the reciever, curious to know what it might mean.

i have been using a 10 guage for 20 years for turkey.i prefer winchester super double xx #6 shot.this is copper plated lead .it gives better penetration than lead .i also prefer #6 shot to anything larger because there is more shot in the air.

Richie, I have just sold my BPS 10, not because I was unhappy with it, but because I was always short-shucking it. Mine was a 24" with choke tubes, and I used it for years for turkeys and geese. In my experience, #6 Federal Premiums through the full choke was devastating on turkeys, but you best be thinking "I'm shooting a rifle" when you pull the trigger--it was the tightest shooting gun I've ever owned! With the gun it was either a clean miss or a clean kill--no in between!! My vote is copper 6's, hands down!!!

Well, dare I be different? I have a Mag 10, for geese, I shoot T shot, and have had great results. On turkeys, I found that my gun likes winchester #4's. The advice about thinking your shooting a rifle is the most solid I've seen. Turkeys are tough, and I've lost a couple with 6's, but never with 4's. Just my results. And while I'm at it, once while turkey hunting, a German Shephard, and an Irish Setter, (no collars) ran a doe and a small fawn buy me. Both are now deep sixin' it, and fell to winchester copper plated # 4's.

i am using an old H&R model 176 10 ga. with a full choke it is a single shot with a 36 in barrel and loves #4 turkey loads. i paced one off one time at 100 yds. no kidding. this gun rolls turkeys and sends em straight to their maker. with this gun you only need one shot. besides I couldn't handle much more than that. this thing weighs a ton. it has a steel rod inside the stock to counterbalance the recoil. it has "sportsmans long range" engraved on the side of the reciever.
I spent all my money on guns, women, and beer. The rest I just wasted.wiredog70@hotmail.com

I'd sure love a 10 gauge. I 'm thinking about the new Remington gas operated. Know anything of it?

Richie, short-shucking is when you either don't pull the foreend back hard enough to eject the hull, or don't push it foreward enough to lock the bolt in battery. The latter was my most commom problem, particularly while goose hunting with a quad parka on. Good luck with yours!!!
