I have a Winchester 54 in .257 Roberts that I am trying to find a stock for that I can cut down for my daughter to use. I'm having trouble locating one and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if a Model 70 stock would work. If so, how hard will it be to modify the stock? Thanks

Well, it wouldn't be easy and the results would be ugly. Primarily in the floorplate/triggerguard region. Keep the 54 as is. For the cost of what you propose, you can find her a good used rifle you can cut off.

I have gone this route on a couple Mod 54's. The main differences are in the area of the front action screw. 54's screw threads into the recoil lug, you must lengthen the inleting for the bottom metal and drill a new hole. Not all that hard. A glass bed job is reccomended to finish up. This is for a wood stock, Have not used plastic.
