REMEMBER THAT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.THE BERETTA IS A FINE GUN, AND YOU CANT COMPARE, THE TWO. A TACTICAL SMITH AND WESSON WITH ADJUSTABLE SIGHTS IN STAINLESS IS A TACK DRIVER. IN MY OWN BACKYARD TEST, THE SMITH AND WESSON JUST OUT GROUPED THE BERETTA,, BECAUSE IT HAD A FOUR INCH BARREL, AND THE BERETTA HAD A 5 INCH BARREL, SO THE FRONT SIGHT HAD TO MUCH LIGHT IN BETWEEN THE REAR SIGHT. ON THE BERETTA. IN A CLOSE QUARTER SITUATION, ANY REALIABE GUN WILL DO. BUT IT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO PLAY WITH, SAY SHOOTING BEER CANS AT 30 YARDS, YOU BETTER BE CHOOSY. BUY A NAME BRAND. A SIG SAUER IS ALSO A GREAT CHOICE, BUT THEY ARE PRICEY.

The CZ line of pistols are very nice guns. The 75 line has earned a reputation as outstanding combat autos. I think if you get one you will be more than satisfied.

look at the majority of pistols on the market right now, eaa witness, baby eagle, tanfoglio, etc... they are made off of a copy of the cz. in europe the cz is like our 1911. anything that has been around that long has proven itself to me and is a reliable pistol, i would not be afraid of owning one and protecting my life with it. If i was going to be doing any competition shooting it would not be my first chioce but depending what you were going to do with it, it should make you a fine pistol. it would be more reliable than say a jennings, lorcin, hi-point,etc... they are boat anchors in my book.
I spent all my money on guns, women, and beer. The rest I just wasted.wiredog70@hotmail.com

I assume you are inquiring only about the 9x19 CZ75. The CZ75 is one of the most important handgun designs in history. (The clones are mentioned above.) Even Jeff Cooper likes it! Thees are high quality pistols and not too expensive now. (Early on, people paid close to $1000 for pistols imported through Canada when Com-Block products could not be imported into the U.S..) High capacity magazines are also fairly inexpensive ($35 to $60). I prefer the original trigger guard style (rounded, not hooked as are current production), but mechanically, the pistols are the same no matter what the trigger guard style. The pistols have a flat spring in the magazine well designed to keep the magazine from being ejected when the magazine release is activated. If it is desired to eliminate that feature, the spring can be easily removed so the magazines will fall free when the magazine release is activated.I think the accuracy of a Beretta and a CZ will be similar, but I have not directly compared mine. Neither is a target pistol. If target-grade accuracy is your goal, look elsewhere.I love my early CZ 75 and believe you would be satisfied with one as well.

What about the CZ 83? Not too many people talk about these and I think even fewer own them. Are they mechanically similar to the 75's? I'm thinking about getting for CC.

They are a good choice & a good bargain right now.CZ USA won't be importing the .32 or 9mm Makarov cqlibers anymore so if you want one of those get it now. Also ,if you want hi-cap mags they are expensive & very hard to find.Drop me a line if you want anymore technical answers or go to CZFORUM.COM.

CZ pistols are premium weapons, and important handgun designs. The 83 is as smooth and durable a blowback type as ever was developed. They are excellent values as are any of the 75/85 types, and the new 97 in .45acp is a great piece too. Stay away from the 50/70 series of .32's as they feed poorly.
