Is there anyone out there, who can tell me how hard it is to change an m14 m1a magazine over to work in an AR10

It is not hard at all. Just buy a magazine conversion kit from ArmaLite and install the M14 spring (after a small modification - I bend the spring rather than cut off the loop as AramLite suggests, that way it can be used as intended in an M14 magazine again if ever desired) and floor plate on the kit body and follower and you have an AR-10 magazine. This is legal because there is still only one large capacity magazine after the conversion, not two. (The M14 magazine is not functional when its parts are removed. To replace the M14 parts would be illegal because then there would be two large capacity magazines instead of just one.)If you want to try the converion without the kit, you will need the AR-10 special follower, which would be very hard to make from scratch. You will also have to machine a latch hole in the side of the M14 body, and cut an opening in the rear top of the body for the bolt stop. The kit is much easier.
