Colt 41 cal. revolver

I have a Colt 41 cal. revolver, Colt D.A. 41 stamped on the barrel, with the pat. dates, August 5, 1884, June 5, 1900, July 4, 1905. 5 digit serial number. Has the Colt horse on the black plactic grips, it's double action with swing out cylinder. Looks alot like a Colt Police Positive 38 special. A good solid pistol. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME IT'S VALUE AND WHERE CAN I BUY AMMO FOR IT? THANKS.

    Sounds like the Colt Army Special Double Action Revolver. If it is, the serial number will be over 300,000. My slightly outdated reference book shows $260, probably add 15% for appreciation. Not sure if factory ammo is available. You might go into the GB auction under ammo (collectible ammo). Huntington, Oroville, CA catalog shows brass, made by Bertram, a buck a piece.

    I didn't notice your description "five digit serial number". This then wouldn't be the above described revolver. It may be the Colt New Navy Double Action with a value of $300 up depending on condition.

    The barrel is from an Army Special, anyway. The patent dates dont work for the New Army/Navy. Look closely at the serial number on the butt of the gun and make sure you didnt miss a number. Also, the two models can be told apart by the cylinder release (the Army Special has the modern-type rounded style).If the serial number is truly 5-digits, then you have a rebarrelled gun.

    If the Colt 41 has been rebarreled then does that hurt the value? I know nothing about guns.
