Hey Oracle,How's it goin?Regarding your question aboutthe mag extension on an 870. You won't need to make any modifications to the actual mag ext. itself, but you'll need to make a slight alteration to the mag tube of the gun.I've done it several times,it's easy! Here's what to do:Find yourself a drill press or standard 3/8hand drill. locate the "dimples" at the upper end of mag tube, just below the mag cap. Now place the drill bit right in the centerof one of the dimples and very carefullydrill through the body of the mag tube, making sure to apply enough pressure to penetrate/puncture the metal but not enough to cause the metal to bend or get out of round. It is a good idea to drill each dimple individually, that way you stand less of a chance of damaging the mag tube.Using a lubricant is also a real good thing too. Another thing I do is I take a rag and shove it into the mag tube from the receiver end of the gun. This will greatly reducethe chances of gettin metal shavings into the other vital ares of your gun. When you've finished the above procedure(s)you'll probably find a few burrs or rough spots around the hole you've just drilled out.No problem. You can use medium grit emorycloth at first to remove the big stuff. After you've used medium and it feels good to you, switch to a fine grit emory, this willtake out the remaining liitle stuff and remove the scratches from the medium grit cloth. The best way to judge if you've gotten all the burrs etc out is to simply drop your shell follower down the tube.If it drops right down with no resistance you've acheieved nirvana! If not keep on sanding'til you can drop that follower down and it slides down like a hot knife throuh butter. After all of this, run a patch or two of gun cleaner through the tube just like you would if you were cleaning it,this will remove the sanding& drilling funk that's left after you've had your fun. I'd also recommend that you get rid of thatpiece o' crap follower that came with your gun and get a Chote brand or similar type of solid plastic type of shell follwer intead.I've used them for years and I've got no complaints at all. Hope this will help you in your project,If you need more info,my email is: sacaircom@yahoo.com Later Amigo Mopar
