A fine man and good friend of mine is about to get his class 2 and soon will go for the class 3. My question is: Since he likes the idea of f/a, what type of ak is the best type to convert, rebuild, or what ever the correct term is. I would like to buy him a couple as a gift.

As far as I know a class 1 is a manufacturers liscense, a class 2 is a dealers, and a class 3 is a owners. I'm not sure but you can get on the ATF's website and see. As far as the best ak, I like bulgarians, but there's alot of romanian available right now.[This message has been edited by leeblackman (edited 10-06-2001).]

Buying a full-auto firearm is kind of like buying a car: most men would rather pick out their own.Because of the rather rigid rules and paperwork requirements, Federal law really makes it difficult for anyone to buy a Class III weapon as a gift. I suggest that you pick out a nice plant or flowers instead.Neal

JUSTA#: A SUGGESTION? BUY A BUNCH OF HI-CAP MAGS. BECAUSE WHEN YOU ROCK AND ROLL 20 RDS DON'T LAST VERY LONG. HOW ABOUT A 1000 RDS OF AMMO OR MORE?

AntiqueDR? Why is that a problem, buying semiautos for the man to convert. With the class 2 or3, can't he do this conversion?

As far as I know the only way he could convert any semi auto now, is if he is going to do it for a law enforcement agency. As of 1986, semi-auto's can no longer be converted for civilian use, unless already registered as a full auto weapon, that just had semi parts in it.
