I hunted the Durham/Oxford area for years using a .22 long rifle on several occasions because NC law allows all .22 cals. All shots in the eye & NEVER one did I miss/get away. I have respect for my game also and only take a shot I can make. Most shots there were 30 yards or less. A lot of the locals use .223 and the guys in the guard unit I know take they M-16 issues home a couple times during the season. The law is still all .22 cal and above.

Thanks for the reply, I'll tell my buddy that it is o.k., He will be using his Marlin 1894M 22 mag lever gun, and has assured me that it will be under 30 yds. By the way it will be in Hyde co. on private property,I use my 45-70 cause I don't like tracking deer through swamps, thanks again...

I hunt mostly in the N.C. mountains and have found over the years that a good Marlin 30/30 is hard to beat. You get good knock down power from 0 yds. out to 150 yds. if you need it and a Marlin 30/30 doesn't cost much more than a Marlin 22mag.

My buddy has all the Marlin lever actions, and has taken deer with all of them except for his 22 mag,he just didn't know if NC had a minimum requirement like Va.

I live / hunt in NC...the .22cal is not prohibited by state requlations, however, each County has their own "over-rides";You need to check the specific county in which you want to hunt with the .22cal;FYI, Hyde County does not list any restrictions in this year's regulations booklet; Enjoy !

Yea that s a big 10-4 on checking local like. Rim fires are prohibited at certain times in certain places for specific game. Centerfire wossie guns (like the .223) are allowed in most places.Andy
