What cal to carry?

I am ready to purchase a HK compact usp. The caliber is the problem. I love the 45 but do I need it? Many say the 40sw is a good choice. I have the specs for all the Hydra-shok rounds offered. My ccw class instructor said the 9mm tends to over penetrate. Recovery time to aim is the other factor. Opinions please. Thanks for your time. God Bless America.     Every caliber that comes along compares itself to the .45. You have heard them over and over. "faster than a .45." more foot pounds than a .45". "Holds more rounds than a .45". The .45 is the "yardstick" for the others.I personally own the following: .22 mag, .380 auto, 9mm, 9mm largo,.357mag,38 special. 10mm, .44 mag .45 auto. Now everyone of those has their own little "nitch" as it were, but one covers the most bases. Answer: .45 auto. So stay with the .45. If you can afford another gun/caliber thats ok too. But remember Look at law enforcement since the 70's. They have run the entire gambit and they finally figured out that the .45 is still the way to go.     As a former Marine I would say you can never go wrong with the .45 in the proper hand gun. If you want capacity go for a pre ban Glock 21. If you plan to use this over seas go with a 9mm. You can find 9mm every where the .40 and the .45 is mainly a North American round. With all that sain my PDW is a Glock 23 in .40. It just works better for me. My 2 cents.

    BUY THE GUN YOU SHOOT THE BEST. ALL THE OTHER "STUFF" DOES NOT MEAN A 'HOOT" IF YOU CAN NOT SHOOT TO POINT OF AIM. MAKES NO DIFFERECE HOW BIG A CANNON YOU HAVE IF YOU CAN NOT HIT THE TARGET.

    I agree with duck, I use to carry a .45, but now I carry a .357 Sig in a Glock, the gun will out shoot me, but in a rush, as you might be in a confortation, I am more accrurate with the .357, but that is just me, most people outshoot one caliber over another, it is what they are comfortable with. I have a Glock 22 but my groups are at least 50% bigger than the Glock 31 in .357

    .45 would be my first choice, .40 my second choice.

    After many different guns were tried, my final answer is Glock 27 converted to .357 SIG. Perfect size for conceal and a hard hitter. Again personal choice rules.

    'Love the .45, but do I need it'? What does that mean? Most chose something other than the .45 because they 'think' that it has too much recoil or some other nonsense. If you can hit with the H&K .45 - go with it, anything less is just that - LESS.

    I carry a Kel-Tec P-32 in my pocket all the time. That said I'm saving up for a Kimber Ultra CDP for cooler weather when the clothes get heavier here in Dixie.
    So many guns to buy. So little money.
