    Not the same.
IMR is faster. Generally use about 5% less IMR 4831 than H4831 in most loads.
Always check 2 or 3 loading manuals to be sure.

I.Shute Is right Imr4831 is faster burning (Hogdon 4831,) (Hogdon Sc or short cut 4831) is the same. Go to the powder mgf's web sites and most of them will give you burn rates IMR Hogdon Ramshot etc.
get a reloading book too most of them will give you the same info
    hope that helps~

Thanks for the reply. I was doing some reloading this afternoon. And looked up a 308 load in the nosler 5th edition. I read the load data for a 150grn partition of 4831 and decided on 48grns which is listed at 2570fps. Only after measuring out a block of 50 did I notice that it was IMR and not Hodgon. I cannot find any load data for H4831 for the 150grn partition, of which I have plenty of both. Is this a safe load? If not no sweat, I will pull the whole block and start over with a more suitable powder.

    Many Thanks,

Hodgdon manual #25 says 47 gr. IMR4831 at 2354 fps is max.

50 gr. of H4831 at 2525 is max.
It's not unusual to see variation in diferent load books.
