Rem 870 Short Barrel

Is there an inexpensive source for short defensive barrels for the Rem 870? Darn shotgun only cost $259 with the standard long barrel so I don't want to pay Rem $200 for a additional barrel. Say 20" or so.

Cut it down.

I know this is not a direct answer but that is on of the reasons the Mossberg combo is such a good deal. I think they still sell for about $275 and come with a 28" and a 18" barrel. But if you were to go and find one to buy they are way more.

Look around gun shows and auctions for a good 18.5 or 20in. barrel.
There are a few on the auction side. Search 870 slug barrels.

Purchase a used plain fixed choke 870 Barrel on GB aucton site and cut it down to cylinder at 18"to 20". Tools needed Hacksaw and file. This is defense not show time.

CAbela's sells them for $119.95 plus shipping for a total of $134.95. Just bought one.

I bought a Remington 20" barrel from Midway USA for my 870. Two weeks later I found a whole rack of used 870 barrels at my local gun store ranging from $35-$50. He must have had a dozen of them, and in the bunch were 3 20" ones. Sometimes it sucks to be me. [:o)]

Thanks folks for the imformation. I think I will cruise the gun shows and local dealers for a good used barrel.
