Colt commander/1911/1991

What are the main differences between the colt commander and the 1911. How does the 1991 fit into all of this? Thanks for all of the info.

Commander has a shorter barrel and frame dust cover. 1991 is a plain Jane matt finish model with some plastic parts to cut cost.
