May make an offer on a nice(98%)no box Smith and Wesson 41.
SER# A599161.
I read a post stating the pre 1990 models are superior to the later ones.
Can someone help with the DOM and/or approx. value of this one?
Thank You.

Would someone give me the DOM.
Can anyone tell me if there is any changes in design or the quality in the 41s beginning with an A in serial# vs the letters TAR?
Thank you.
Never mind on the DOM found it. 1986
Thank You.
Wood mint.Blueing about 95%.7inch 1 magazine.
paid $800.
Today I found a mint(no box) TAR ser# model at my local gun shop.
7inch 2 mags.
$670 out the door.
I am inclined to get it but would like to learn what I can about the TAR 41s first.
In the past I have foolishly moved too fast on what seemed like a good deal only to find out later that it was just an okay deal or worse.
I would appreciate any comments.
Thank You.
I purchased one of the A model 41s about 2 years ago.

I would consider it, a good deal. Check out what they are actually selling for, on the auctions. Or on the Rimfire Central site, (buy and trade board). At that price, it's going to go quick,IMHO.
I like the really old ones, true craftsmanship.
added Ask them to ask the owner about working with you, even if it's only a chat about the weapon. I got my model 53 Jet at "I should have been wearing a mask price" because the owner knew I was a shooter not a collector.
In your current case it appears likely the owner just wants to sell quickly (lower price), maybe he needs the money or he just can't shoot due to health issues.
The bids vary a lot with most not reaching the reserves.
The buy it now prices are much higher than the bids in the few that ended.
charliemeyer007...I ask.No where to test fire it there.
Its on consignment.
The store owner said the seller is in his sixties and has recently sold a few other guns there.
The seller also has for sale there a nice 8inch blued Colt Python.
I think that the only "cheapening" of the M41 was the recent introduction of "laser cut" checking on the grips. But, hand fitting & finishing are still as good as it gets for a regular production competition .22.

It sold last night.
His Python also sold for more than the 1995 asking price.
Great guns!
