Barrel hardness?

I have two barrel blanks of which one will be used to build a 300 Win Mag on a Mauser 98 action. One of them tested 32 Rockwell C, and the other tested 44 RC. I know that the harder one would be more brittle, and it seems that 44 RC is a little hard for a gun barrel. Both are 4140 steel. Does anyone have the spec's for barrel hardness?

    I was told that glock barrels are harder than any other type of gun. What is the rockwell hardness of a glock barrel as compared to that of a colt or other major name?
