Stallard Arms JS 9MM

I am amazed at the breath of knowledge on this board. What a resource.

I have a Stallard JS 9MM (erroniously reported as a Smithfield in earlier posts....yes the hams are good!).

Bought this piece at an auction a few years ago for $170.00. I like the gun. Fits my hand real good, and the action is smooth. No frills. I'll bet grand total I haven't fired 500 rounds with a pistol, but the wife and I are starting to shoot more. I can hit what I am aiming at at 20 paces pretty well.

Can anyone tell me anything a this piece? What about Stallard/Maverick as a company? Still in business, etc.

Any and all input is greatly appreciated. Thanks to the members here for passing along their knowledge.

    Looked in the books for ya. First thing that happened when I looked up Stallard Arms of Mansfield, OH a little text underneath it told me to see listings under Hi-Point, so I'm guessing that they are out of business and were probably bought out by Hi-Point.

    Now from what I understand Hi-Point is now Hi-Point/MKS, and from what I hear MKS has done nothing but made them better. A guy visited the hang out (The Gun Shop), and apparently he's a salesman for a company that sells industrial supplies to MKS. And when he visited their facility, they gave him a .45 for FREE. And he loved it so much that he had a set of custom stagghorn grips made for it at my hand out (The Gun Shop). From what he told us, though they aren't the frilliest guns on the market, the company prides itself in them. They shoot, and if anything break, they fix it free...

    Now back to the book.

    The JS-9 made from 1990-98, has 8rd magazine, 4.5" barrel, 7.75" OAL, weight 39oz., fixed low-profile sights w/3-dot, available in matte blue, matte black, or chrome finish, and has checkered synthetic grips. $90.

    Or if you have the one with the compensated barrel and shortened slide, adjustable sights, and a 10rd magazine weighing 30oz, made 1998 to date then its worth $110.

    The company started out as Haskel then went to Maverick then Stallard then Hi-Point. The originals where big clunky piles of pot metal and they have gotten better as they went . The Haskels and Stallards originally had a dealer price of well under 100.00. I think the cost on the Hi-points in the lower 100.00 range. The early ones looked like bad cartoon drawings of guns (Dick Tracy). They were very heavy

    A friend of mine (a gunsmith) had a man bring one of the Mavericks in and put a set TC pistol sighes on it. The sites were worth more than the pistol. He claimed it shot great with no felt recoil , of course the darn thing probably weighed 5 pounds.

    O.K. , if you have one of these that works ....call ripleys.....
    we refused to sell them and wont even work on them in our shop they are so bad....have seem used ones at gun shows for well less than a franklin ($100) with NO takers at all....and why would you put one on a trot line???no respect for fish????ha!ha!......a $170.00 , wish you

    Hey, the last time I said something bad about HiPoints a fellow named Dean told me that I was anti gun and should be working for Handgun Control. I am sorry but I just don't like these guns and if that makes me anti gun and anti American then old Dean is entitled to his opinion. To disassemble a Stallard you'll need a 3/32 inch punch and a hammer (try to avoid using the hammer for pounding on the pistol itself). Pull the slide to the rear and then let it go forawrd for maybe 1/8" and you will see the slide retaining pin at the rear of the frame. Punch out the pin, then lift up on the rear of the slide and push it forward and off of the frame. Once the slide is off you can then remove the striker assembly. I just can't believe how many anti gun folks we have on these boards...anyone who bad mouths HiPoints must be working for Sara Brady! Come on Dean, let us hear all about it!

    Its Dean again,I still question why you would call a working gun a pile of junk.(He was not going into combat with it)You use the same line of logic as HIC. (Your post imply,Only the Rich Upper Class who own can aford a highend gun has the right to own firearms.)The low end guns for the most part use a proven design that The Master himself John Browning developed 100 years ago.

    Just so you will know Dean, in addition to Hi Points I also dislike the following firearms:
    Jennings
    Bryco
    Davis
    Anything made by Hesse
    Most Chinese shotguns
    Century Arms M1 Garands
    Most Universal M1 carbines
    Lorcins
    Sundance
    Talon
    Phoenix Arms
    Parker/Wyoming Arms
    Lots of stuff from AMT
    Most RGs, Rohms, ect.
    Charco
    Rexio
    Clerke
    Heritage
    Sundance
    and probably a few dozen others, if I wnated to take the time to think back. I sell guns for a living Dean and that is one of the reasons that people on GB tell me they like to read my posts and appreciate my advice on firearms. For me to suggest that a pistol like the Hi Point is a good choice (for anything) would be my failing to uphold the trust that Gun Broker members have placed in me to be honest and truthfull in my evaluations of firearms. There are many fine choices in the surplus handgun market which would be far better than a Hi Point and just because I tell people openly which guns I like and which guns I don't like hardly makes me a shill for the Brady Bunch. I fairnes to you however I will continue to post the link to your comments so that any other GB members who share my dislike for cheaply made firearms like the Hi Point can read how they too are anti gun, at least in your eyes. Based on the reading of dozens of posts on GB about Hi Points over the past few years we have an awful lot of anti gun people on the boards because Hi Points are not the number one choice for hanguns. By the way, where EXACTLY did I say that these Hi Points were a pile junk?
