making a rear sight slot blank

I have a Heym barrelled action. Has a flip up rear sight. Looks like the kind on a 10/22. I want to remove this sight and fill the slot with a blank. But the slot is about 5/8". Can't find a slot blank that size anywhere, yet. So thinking of making one. Any advice?

Mike W has the right idea only you skill will make the job look like a work of art or cobbled crude attempt.
Not much to using a file. but getting the angle right as the slot has a slight dove tail, will require some skill. Thanks for the feed back guys. I'll call Brownell's tomorrow.
blank out of Oak, looks pretty
good(imho) ,doesn't hurt the weapon
and it is easily removeable.I put
a dab of varnish to make it
weather tite and fill any small
crack that would allow water in
the dovetail. I guess I'm
cheap
Don't forget to spray laquer over the finished work, so as to let it seep into the cracks, and wipe off excess. Best, Joe
