Why dont sellers answer questions?

I understand occasionally sellers list items, then the SHTF and they are too busy, but doggone it, I cannot tell you how often sellers have incomplete or fuzzy pictures or vague descriptions that almost demand any potential buyer ask a question. Then...the waiting begins...and the waiting...and waiting...So many times I just wont get a reply from them. Now...they expect me to trust them with my money? What gives? So many times I was ready to bid (and I only search no reserve auctions) and wind up NOT bidding because the seller would not answer my question. Then the item either does not sell or sells much below what my max bid would have been.

no answer the question, no sale. Pretty easy for me.

A fair number of the sellers who post substandard pictures and descriptions regularly do so intentionally. They are trying to sell "junk" and they know it. It (in their minds) is easier to not answer specific questions or to post better pictures. They are counting on someone taking a chance, buying the gun, and then not sending it back because they lose the shipping costs both directions. As Mr. Friendly alluded to, "Caveat Emptor".

Many, many times I have answered questions only to have the email returned because of a fire wall or change of email address.

If you ask them a direct question and they don't answer they are most likley hiding something, no sale no matter what the excuse.

Dandak: excellent responses to your question above! Use the E-mail system as a tool! It can only work to your advantage, including the 'non-responders', who are helping you by not responding!

In addition to the above, let me state that some of these guns have been literally relisted for years due to the "auto relist" option. I sometimes wonder if the gun - or the seller - even exist any more!

See, the lister didn't know how to work a digital camera because they were old none tech savy people. Then they set the listing to repeat, and kicked the bucket.

Spider brings up a great point. Since most sellers upload multiple pics, and pics gobble up precious server space (memory), it would probably be a good idea (although not all sellers will agree, especially the really big sellers with hundreds of items listed) to have a weekend where beginning on Friday night, ALL ACTIVE 'instant re-list' auctions that have been listed a certain amount of time (say, 6 months or longer) are ended permanently. If the seller wishes to re-list that auction item, then he must do it from scratch. That would free up some valuable server space. And no doubt, and may they rest in peace, some of these sellers are no longer with us. But their auctions live on in their memory... Just my two cents.
