Hello,
I am looking at a MCA in 30-06, it has had a recoil pad installed and was wondering how bad it hurts the value?? I don't have a picture but the rifle is in fine condition, also has a Vari-2 3x9 with the original bases. The guy wants $1000, what do ya think??
Thanks

Smoothest, most beautifully made bolt action I'd ever owned. (though the action had been drilled and tapped for the Redfield mounts)
Let it go when a pierced primer sent gas straight through the bolt and back to my shooting glasses.
FWIW, I think the price is a bit steep for an altered stock, and definitely if it's been drilled and tapped, but even if so, it will probably draw that money from someone.
Just not me.
p.s. Not a foolproof test, but with mine it not drilled and tapped except for the side mount mentioned above. The dead giveaway on mine was that the holes on the receiver ring went right through some of the lettering.
BTW: That price doesn't sound too bad to me. You don't mention whether it's a carbine or rifle--the full-stock carbines usually bring a little more. The recoil pad hurts the value to collectors but probably makes it a better shooter. If that's a Leupold scope, it's a good one. If you like the rifle, go for it. I have 6 of these rifles, shoot them regularly with full loads and have never had a gas leak problem.
