Have a Colt 45 SSA nickel finish stag horn grips 4-3/4 bbl- serial number 88640-- there is a pat dat sep 19 1871 july 2-72 jan 19-75. The writing on the bbl is washed out and hard to read but it says Colt mfc co under Hartford conn. Any idea what its worth? Thinking of selling it and not sure what to ask. Thanks to anyone that can give me some idea.

You may have a pistol of considerable value but without pictures That are close up well lit and in focus and opinion would just be a wild Guess dating your pistol built 1883 See the sticky "ONE OF THE TOP FEW POST ON THIS FORUM on how to post pictures as an attachment to a posting

All I can say at this point is that it's a black powder model manufactured in 1883. I would question the originality of the nickel finish (most likely refinished) and stag grips but we definitely need pictures to help you any further.

This thread will show you how to post them and the more the better, particularly as close and clear as possible.

What he means is that Colt SAA's bring top dollar on GunBroker. A lot of sellers start their sales at a penny to stimulate bids.

The problem there is, a lot of people want to know what a gun is "worth" without wanting to sell it.
Bragging purposes and division of estate come to mind.
