Not for the faint of heart. Can anyone tell me what the SA-52 designates as shown in Pic 1? Can't say I've seen markings here before? Mr. Christian? http://www.GunBroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=551083393

Indicates it was rebuilt at Springfield Armory in 1952. A change from stamping a rebuild marking on the stock.

SA-52 heel-marked Garands have been the source of much discussion over the years. The stamping has been found mostly on plugged M1C receivers and late WW2 serial numbers, which would include the piece of scrap metal shown in the link. The heel marking has also been observed on some type 2 national match rifles. The SA heel marks are interesting because the 1960's era SA rebuilds were electro-pencil etched on the right receiver leg.

PS- Nothing happens in the forum day, but as soon as I finish a double bourbon the technical questions start coming in.
