I have a Colt SA Army 45 lc and trying to find the value in the BB. It has a 4 3/4 " bbl, black plastic grips w/ eagle. It came in a brown wood grain cardboard box w/ two Styrofoam halves. The serial number starts wit SA. Confused about the box but doesn't this sound like a 3rd generation Colt Army.

colts went from brown Card board box with foam inserts to later Blue plastic the third Gen has changes within that type grip frames are normally smaller than gen two. grips can be fitted to gen 3 grip frames but not other way around some early Gen 3 do not have removable Cilinder bushing while later gen 3 went back to same style as gen one and two. pistols barrel threads different on gen 3 screw threads also different on gen 3 hammer is different

Only up to 73319SA, the last of the Second Generation models. The early Third Generation SAA's began with 82200SA through 99999SA before they began stamping SA at the with serial number SA01001.
