Repairing engraving

I just bought a Weatherby XXII from my LGS. The previous owner had engraved his DL number in the side portion of the receiver that sits above the stock on the opposite side of the receiver opening. The engraving appears to have been done with one of those hand held ones and is not all that deep. The receiver appears to be aluminum, such as on the Ruger 10/22's. Any ideas as to what I can do to cover it up some, or make it disappear? Thanks.

Spray and bake or a finish like CeraKote.

Easy to make disappear. List it on the auction side. You will never fix it.

I had a S & W 622 like that. I was able to polish it off without any trouble. As the frame on the 622 is not anodized. It cleaned up well.

If you decide to go that route. Your either going to have to anodize. or use "Aluminum Black".To cover it.

Personally I would blast the whole receiver with small diameter plastic beads. After removing the markings. It gives the aluminum a very fine, uniform mat appearance. Way better than trying to cover it up, with "Aluminium Black".

Number cut through the anodizing, showing as silver on black?
I think I would just trace it out with a black felt tip to kill the gleam.

I mean, it must not have bothered you much in the store when you bought it.

That's correct HC. And yes, it didn't bother me much since the gun is otherwise mint and came with a Leupold VXII 3x9 for $400.
