Remington 1100 Bolt Jam

I have a Remington 1100 that has a problem with the bolt while moving forward. It will sometimes jam just short of going into battery. I will then have to give it a good tap on the charging handle to get it unstuck. Any ideas?

I should that this happens when manually releasing the bolt by depressing the carrier release as well as when firing.

Check the "O" ring.

Just gave it a very thorough Marine Corps Infantry cleaning. Trust me, it's clean.
Nothing wrong with the O-ring. It seems to be independent of anything to do with the piston system.

If you remove the barrel does the bolt still stick? If not look for unusual wear at the barrel hood.

So it does not seem do it when the barrel is off. What kind of wear would I be looking for? There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the barrel.

I don?t know the history of your 1100 as to whether or not you have the original barrel and if it isn?t the original barrel maybe something is interfering with the bolt going fully into battery. Look for shiny places at the breech end of the barrel where it fits into the receiver inside and out. If you have another barrel put it on the gun and see if the bolts works.

i would pull the buttstock off and check to see if the main action spring isn't corroded up or broke..be very careful when removing that-wear eye protection!

As mentioned earlier, it was thoroughly cleaned. Checked the original barrel. Some peening where the bolt locks in but I did not find any obvious issues. I believe the problem may be a worn extractor. It appears that the extractor is hanging up on the edge of the barrel when it enters the extractor slot. Removed the extractor and have cycled the action numerous times with no jams. I ordered a new one and will post when I get it back together. Thanks guys.
