Winchester Model 12 Receiver Extension

I recently purchased a receiver extension for a Winchester Model 12, 12 ga. I want to use it on an extra barrel. I cannot get the marks on the extension and the barrel to line-up. Do I need to get shims? It goes 3/4 of a turn past the mark.

Take some off the shoulder of the barrel to allow the extension to
    turn on 1/4 turn farther.

Winchester m-12's have never been 'plug & play'. If you want an extra barrel it will be custom fit all the way. Don't forget the 'barrel chamber ring', this must be custom fit to EACH barrel (just because it works ok with one barrel don't mean it will work with the other).
