Savage model 19 scope mount

Hello all,

Looking at a savage model 19 nra at local shop. Gun looks nice and has original front and rear sights. Thinking I am gonna pick it up. However my concern is I would like to mount a scope on it. Did some research but getting lots of different answers. There does not appear to be any mounting holes on this so it would have to be drilled. Does anyone know what a proper base would be for this? Would it be best to use weaver mounts if they make it for them? Is there a vintage mount to look for instead. Would like to keep a semi vintage look but would still like to mount some sort of scope.
Have this posted in general as well but maybe it is better answered here.
Thanks in advance.

The Savage NRA rifle, is a long out of production. If it's factory original, and in at least VG condition? It would have collectors value. D & T'ing, would reduce that substantially.

Below is what a vintage scope looks like, mounted on the first model Savage NRA.

There was a specific receiver sight made for it. That attached to drilled and taped holes in the top of the receiver. It was 2 piece assembly consisting of a sheet metal mount and a receiver sight that fit into the mount. Hard to come by at this late date. But better then D & T'ing for a Weaver, IMHO.

if you are planning on leaving sights on rifle then you will have to D&T the receiver, all a matter of what you are planning to put on it.
just because you could doesn't mean you should

I plan on taking the sights off if I get it. Keep them if I ever decide to sell it.
