I would like to know if any of you guys know of an internet site to check if a gun is hot.I am concerned that I might pick one up at a gun show, then be stuck. If there is a site,I could phone my wife to check before I buy. Thanks

I did a quick search on Google for "stolen gun registry" but really didn't come up with anything, other than a site for stolen paintball guns. In a way, I'm surprised that a registry doesn't already exist. Ideally, it should be one central list for the whole US. Would think the NRA might be the perfect owners for something like this. Anybody ever heard if they've ever considered it?

There is a site made just for that. I am sorry but I do not remember the URL. I saw another gun broker user post the address about a month ago. You go to the site, enter the #'s and it will tell you if it's been reported stolen. Sorry I can't remember the URL but there is a site and it's exactly what you are looking for. I hope somebody posts it because I am going to add it to my bookmarks myself.

The Department of Justice's NCIC is the only comprehensive data base of stolen guns. However, only law enforcement agencies can access it. It would take a major political wind shift for the federal government to put it online and allow civilians to access it.Do not expect the NRA to do this. They don't have the necessary data, they don't have the data gathering and update capability, and they don't have the many millions of $ that such a system would require.Neal
