38 Super and 38 Auto vs 9mmx23

Is the 38 Super rim trimmed off to make the 9x23 or is the case the same?
SAAMI shows both 38 Super and 38 Auto cases to be identical.

SAMMI is correct as far as 38 Super & 38 Auto cases are concerned. The 9 x 23 differs from these two by being rimless. The rim and head dimensions are the same as the 9mm Luger. But the case length is 23mm, whereas the Luger's is 19mm. The case lengths of the 9 x 23 & 38 Super/38 Auto are virtually the same.

9x23 is a stronger case made to load to higher pressures than the 38 super. And being rimless and a taper case instead of a straight wall case is supposed to feed better. Some race guns are produced in this caliber 9x23. Some others are in the 38 super. The 38 Super you have to reload to make major in IPSC the 9x23 can be bought of the shelf.

38 Super and 38 Auto cases may be the same, but don't try the 38 Super ammo in a 38 Auto gun. Pressures are much different.
