marked savage model 99 and under the 99 is # 7
There is another stamp with model 99F
Serial # 104xxxx

Hi dipits, first tell your son in law that getting a piece of this quality handed down is something to be proud of.then to be handed a piece of mechanical art like this makes it something he can use to teach his kids and thier kids what to do and not to do with a firearm.according to Douglas P. Murry the 99f (the f standing for featherweight) was made from 1955- 1973, it is a basic solid frame 99 with a tappered barrel slightly thinner forearm. this of course trimming some weight. the location of the safety will help determine the actual age. if its on the lever its pre 1960. if its up on the tang it will be post 1960. we need to know the cal to make a real valueation, but almost anywhere there worth $475.00- $500.00 that will vary from place to place. tell son in law congrats!

Thanks for the information. Son in law is very proud as he is one of 4 grandsons. Grandfather was going to nursing home and wanted make sure he recieved it.
Safty is on the tang.Caliber is 308.

There seems to be little way to pin 99's to a specific year post 1950-52. Don't know if the records were lost, destroyed or what, but no sources have the serialization past early 50's.
