Steel shot from a full choke

I have an older model 1100 with a 30 inch full choke barrel and was told it was not safe to shoot steel shot through it. Is this true?

    Hello Corren...

It is not a "safety" issue per se, but it is an issue with damaging your gun. Shooting steel shot through a barrel not specifically designed for it will eventually damage the bore, and on shotguns with Full chokes, it will cause the choke to open up, or possibly bulge the barrel right in front of the choke.

The previous responder summed up the situation right on the money. If you would like to shoot steel shot through your 1100 you might want to consider either having a gunsmith open the choke up to at least Medium or buying an extra barrel. Just a suggestion.
