I ASKED THIS ON THE RELOADING SECTION ALSO.
Hear is what im working with.

i have some 325gr lrn gas ck bullets
wanting to use 3031 powder, info i have found is for 322gr 52.0+60.0*

i also have mixed brass (separated)
normal 45-70 win,rem, etc @ 2.100 LENGTH
hornady Leverevolution that is 2.050 LENGTH

max load is out of the question as it is already compressed at 60

any idea how much to reduce this to use the hornady brass?

not looking for zombie killer bullets

gun is a HR HB 45-70

HAVE SHOT THE Hornady 45-70 Leverevolution OUT OF IT AND THEY HAVE A GOOD KICK TO IT[B)]

WAS THINKING maybe using 50g of the 3031.

Just picked up a trapdoor. Got some really nice bullets that are made locally but noticed that Cabelas has Oregon Trail Laser-Cast Bullets at a much lower price than the local ones. Anyone have any experience with these?

I would recommend starting at 45-grains of IMR 3031 with a 325 grain bullet and working up slowly.

From personal experience and preference, it is tough to beat 40-grains of IMR 4198 under a 325 grain bullet.

I am pretty partial to a load of 34 grains of that IMR 4198, behind a hard cast(Missouri Bullet, #1 Buffalo) 405 grainer. I had a guy by the name of [:D]Bert[:D], on here give me the info[:D][:D] I shoot it out of a late model Winchester 1886 takedown(Japan made), and a Browning 1885 BPCR(same maker). Easy on the shoulder, yet powerful, and accurate enough to do gallon milk jugs at 300 and 400 yards.

If you must use IMR-3031, go to the Hodgdon reloading site:

    http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp

and look up what you need.

I use 50 grains of 3031 to push a 300 grain jacketed bullet out of a Gibbs 45-70 and it is an outstanding load combination. I can get cloverleaf groups at 100 yards all day long.

    Good luck, Don

As a rule of thumb, you can "split" the 300 and 350 data (both min and max) for the 325's
IE if with powder X the 300's call for 50 to 60gr and the 350's call for 40-50gr, than you should be safe using 45-55gr for your 325's (assuming all 3 are of the same type/construction of course)

according to my Lyman's,those are RUGER ONLY loads with 3031.
    YOWIES.
47-54 grains is more where u want to be with 322 grain lead.
